5 Ted Talks You Need To Watch For More Confidence

TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) is a non-profit created in 1984, whose sole purpose is to support the spread of ideas around the world. They are famous for their short, powerful talks on any topic, from science, business, global issues, and inspiring stories.

Watching the talks from conferences around the world is a great way to listen to experts in every field that you would otherwise never get a chance to hear- in fact, these experts are often at the pinnacle of their careers that the talks they give at TED are the first time they are talking about the findings of their latest, ground-breaking research and business initiatives.

Confidence- self-esteem, optimism in our ability to be productive and successful. It’s something everyone struggles with, but it can be even harder to feel confident and develop confidence when you struggle with your mental health. TED Talks offer inspiration and practical advice on so many topics- including confidence. Here are FIVE of my favourites!

Amy Adkins ‘3 tips to boost your confidence’

If you have just five minutes today to watch one of these TED talks, Amy Adkins ‘3 tips to boost your confidence’ is a must-watch! She explains what confidence is, where it comes from and 3 practical steps you can take to get more of it!

Amy Cuddy ‘your body language shapes who you are’

This talk is all about power posing, the science behind how we hold ourselves and how it affects how confident we feel. Body language could be key to helping you out in an awkward interaction when anxiety and your stress reaction is high.

Projecting confidence or ‘faking it until you make it’ even when you don’t feel it, to begin with, can help you out in all aspects of your life. Social psychologist Amy Cuddy looks at the power of body language and the impact it can have on our feelings and those of others around us.

Mike Kinney ‘a pro-wrestler’s guide to confidence’

Former pro wrestler Mike Kinney gives a talk on a pro-wrestlers guide to confidence. This talk is funny, relatable, and inspiring. His thoughts on how we can all be more confident in our day to day lives while being able to reach our full potential makes a big impact from the first few words. This talk is all about taking what makes you great, what you have a passion for, and ‘turning it up’.

You’re not only going to leave this talk with the inspiration to stand taller and follow your dreams but also with a smile and a strange intrigue to learn more about pro wrestling…

Brittany Packnett ‘How to build your confidence and spark it in others’

Educator and Activist Brittany Packnett gave an inspiring talk on how to ‘crack the code of confidence’ She explains how it is the key to creating a world where we can turn our aspirations and ambitions into reality. She makes a great point about confidence being undervalued as a skill to have, and how it is one of the main things missing from a lot of people's lives- ‘it's the difference between being inspired and actually getting started.’

David Kelly ‘How to build creative confidence’

We have all heard the saying that some people are practical and some are creative. It’s a divide that starts early on in our lives. Designer David Kelly talks about how creativity is not just for the few. In this TED talk, he describes his relationship between fear and judgment and embracing creativity. Recognising that this is something that everyone else can face throughout their lives, he suggests how we can all become confident in our creative skills.
