International Ataxia Awareness Day

Saturday, 25th September is the International Ataxia Awareness day. It’s a collaborative effort from organisations around the world to raise awareness for the condition. Here are some details about the disease from the National Ataxia Foundation’s website:

‘Ataxia is a degenerative disease of the nervous system. Many symptoms of Ataxia mimic those of being drunk, such as slurred speech, stumbling, falling, and incoordination. […] People affected by Ataxia may experience problems with using their fingers and hands, arms, legs, walking, speaking or moving their eyes. Ataxia affects people of all ages. Age of symptom-onset can vary widely, from childhood to late-adulthood. Complications from the disease are serious and oftentimes debilitating. Some types of Ataxia can lead to an early death.’

There are many different ways to fundraise or support the Ataxia community - see below for several informative sources.

International Week of Happiness at Work

Here at SIC, we’re happy to be celebrating the International Week of Happiness at work. To us, happiness and flexibility in the workplace is crucial. Here’s a quote from their website:

‘Let’s create a workplace to stimulate fun, appreciation, positive feedback, awesome challenges, trust, meaningful results and own responsibilities. Let us, as employees, employers entrepreneurs, organizations, and especially as human beings work together to make happiness at work the norm and not the exception.’

This week was pioneered by Maartje Wolff and Fennande van der Meulen in 2017, and it has since become an international initiative through the support of workplaces around the world.
